what is practice research??? ways of knowing....
this video features eddie lenihan, a 21st (and 20th) century storyteller who closely follows the oral storytelling tradition... this dcoumentary by maurice gunning etc gicves insight into the work he does, the reverence he holds for the tradition and the value he sees in it and the old ppl.... a storyteller in the 21st century - he has embraced some more mediums - dial a seanchai... online... performance in the digital space, while the main medium might still be the voice.... what medium suits best, and is it not storytelling if it is not the traditional way?
he also shows disdain for recorded... although he records stuff aswell... how should story, song... be recorded and preserved... is there an author... does the tradition allow for it to be open source... and how does recording and remediating a landscapes and communities stories change and affect the story and the tradition, especially in todays day and age... talk of knowledge of the old? what about new media... have to confront it.... as it is how we communicate now... and how most ppl understand the world now around us....
furthermore, eddie points to individual expression.... to captivate audience... but who is the individual who is given this freedom of expression... is it reserved for the few as it was in the past? what about the wider community? is there a more multipoint/entry, transmedial... more options and more diverse and more inclusive way for ppl to engage... other than thru passive listening?
Also - memory... remembering differently.... gaps in knowledge...
